Quirky (age of building related)but comfortable room. Some noise from the main bar below in the evening but not excessive. Ideal position for the town and area. Nice freshly cooked breakfast.
Freshly ground coffee would be a nice addition at breakfast.

The room was cosy with a kettle, central heating and an iron included. The bed was lovely, my stay lasted for 1 night. The venue was set in the central position just next door to Clacton/London/Cambridge, restaurant and the centre...

Charming historical building, private car park, unique room arrangements
Noise from the bar and main street disrupts peace at night!!! Bathrooms lack proper cleanliness, and please fix the heating issues-it's unacceptable!!! Staff responses to complaints need serious improvement !!!

Very old hotel but it was convenient for us near our wedding venue. We just ordered a cab which the staff did for us.Very good breakfast next morning before we left for home.
As we arrived early our room was not ready which was ok as we just wanted to change for the wedding we were going to.As bed was stripped we did notice the mattress was very stained which was a bit offputting. Towel rail was hanging off the wall in bathroom and shower was a bit worse for wear.As we had a room in main part of hotel was a bit noisy from the pub below though that did stop at 1am.Early noise from traffic as we overlooked the street.

The building had a good old-world charm, and my room was clean and comfy. The shower had the power to wake the dead, refreshing!
The decor screamed 'shabby chic' in a not-so-chic way. Plus, I reminded me of I was in a game of 'find the missing remote'-spoiler alert, I didn't score!

The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast excellent. A good choice of bar food which was well cooked .
Not very welcoming on arrival, appeared short staffed. Did get beter in the evening although some very drunk and noisy revellers did cause a nuisance in the car park around midnight.(Saturday) It does warn of noise at weekends so put down to experience.

convenient walking distance to great cafes and historic sites
I appreciated the beautiful old building and the friendly staff who made my visit enjoyable, and with Halstead's good cafes and landmarks like the Hook of Halstead just a few steps away, I felt right at home exploring the charming streets.

good breakfast, good bed, large TV, a nice experience to stay in a public house with over 700 years, but only for one or a few days.
light smell of alcohol coming from the downstairs pub., steep staircase.
